Book Shop News: The Work We Do

Saint Mark’s is fortunate this month to display the photography of Richard Anderson, captivating and colorful works that bring us the beautiful and poignant world of life in Haiti, where he accompanied Dr. Dianne Pizey on a recent medical mission. Far more than a travelogue or documentation of events, these images demonstrate the power of photography to bring distant places and unknown people to life before our eyes. The Book Shop is glad to offer unframed copies of some of these pictures, and other subjects besides, including nature photographs and a series of icon-like angel images from the Lakewood Cemetery Chapel.

One of Saint Mark’s book groups is also examining the work we do: Nancy Nordenson’s Finding Livelihood: A Progress of Work and Leisure explores “the place where labor and love meet,” considering the differences between the life we plan and the life we’re given, how we value our work, how money and meaning figure in the equation, and the tensions between desire and aspiration. Drawing from an array of thinkers, the author brings the doctrine of Imago Dei into the real world of work to illuminate our understanding of “livelihood.”

These and many other gems of all kinds await you in the Book Shop, where we’ve shaken out the after-inventory cobwebs and once again invite you to come and see…
