Book Shop News: NOUWEN THEN…
Living into the Easter message is the theme of Dutch writer and theologian Henri Nouwen, whose meditations rising from personal struggles have helped many.

Now and then comes a serendipitous moment when Sunday’s sermon coincides with your Book Shop’s current focus. When the Rev. Anna Ostenso-Moore posed the question of what we might do in response to the message of Easter, it seemed to echo the life’s work and writing of Henri Nouwen (1932-1996), a Dutch Catholic priest, professor and theologian who has found a wide audience among those seeking to integrate the life of Christ in their daily concerns. His major themes include his own struggles with depression and the need for personal human connection, and his eloquence in relating his experience has drawn many to consider him a helpful spiritual guide. In addition to his work as a teacher, writer, and public speaker, Nouwen spent his last ten years as a pastor at L’Arche Daybreak, serving people with developmental disabilities, where he found the Eucharistically-centered community he had always envisioned.
