Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise for all that you have done for us.
We thank you for the splendor of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world,
for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love.
-A General Thanksgiving, BCP
Christians believe God has entrusted creation to our wise and faithful stewardship. This stewardship includes discerning the heart and mind of God regarding the inherent dignity and holy purpose of God’s creation. Ever striving to see and to interact with creation from God’s loving perspective, we’re charged with both rights and responsibilities to balance the material needs of each life with the sustainable demands of all life.
To this end, Christians understand God’s creation as a ‘household of life’ (oikos) and we spend a lifetime shaping ourselves in ‘home economics’ (oikonomia). In addition to patterning our hearts and minds on the image of God, we also pattern our lifestyles for faithful participation in God’s holy economy, asking always what gifts, passions, treasure, and power have I been given for the good of the world?
For Christians, what begins with gratitude moves quickly to generosity until, over a lifetime, we find ourselves both spiritual and material partners in God’s creating, redeeming, and sustaining love for the world.
While the entirety of our life together at Saint Mark’s aims to shape holy lives through prayer, study, and service, this page is specifically focused on helping you shape your financial life for partnership in God’s mission.
