As we continue journeying through this season of
transition and prayerful anticipation for the calling of our next
Dean, I want to extend a heartfelt invitation to those among you who
may be discerning a call to serve in leadership at Saint Mark’s
Cathedral. The gifts, wisdom, and faith of this community have always
shaped our life together, and this is a moment when your voice and
presence matter deeply.
What Is the Vestry in the Episcopal Church?
In the Episcopal tradition, the
Vestry is the primary elected lay leadership body of the
parish or cathedral. It is entrusted with:
·
stewardship of our
resources,
·
care for the mission and
vision of the Cathedral,
·
supporting the clergy in
shared governance, and
·
holding the community in
prayer, discernment, and wisdom.
A Vestry member is a spiritual leader, called to
listen deeply, act faithfully, and help guide the Cathedral in a way
that reflects Christ’s love, justice, and compassion.
Why This Matters Now
Saint Mark’s stands at a threshold—honoring our rich
heritage while opening ourselves to the fresh movement of the Spirit.
As we prepare to welcome a new Dean, our Vestry will continue shaping
the path ahead with prayerful courage. This requires leaders who are:
·
Christ-centered in their
decisions,
·
rooted in the values of
the Gospel,
·
committed to the
flourishing of all God’s people,
·
able to lead with
humility, collaboration, and clarity,
·
eager to support healthy
systems, and
·
devoted to building a
Cathedral community marked by welcome, integrity, and hope.
Leadership at Saint Mark’s is not about holding power,
but about holding space—space for listening,
discernment, growth, truth, and for guiding this beloved Cathedral
into its next season.
A Call to Those Who Are Discerning
If you feel a stirring—whether
gentle or bold—to serve, I encourage you to pray about this call.
Talk with those you trust. Ask the Spirit what it might mean for you
to help shepherd Saint Mark’s at this pivotal moment. Our community
needs leaders with steady hearts, open minds, and a deep love for
this Cathedral and its mission.

As your Provost, it is my joy to walk alongside you in
this discernment. Together we continue preparing the way for the
ministry that is unfolding before us—ministry that will grow, deepen,
and take new shape under the leadership of our next Dean. Christ is
already guiding the process, and your gifts may be part of that
guidance.
In hope and gratitude,
Tim+
