Newcomers Connection
Sunday, January 11, following 10:30 service
Heritage Room
Newcomers gatherings are held monthly at Saint Mark’s following
the 10:30 Sunday service. The goal of gatherings is to help you feel
more at home at the Cathedral. If you are new or returning to Saint
Mark’s and would like to become better acquainted with the people and
the place, this gathering is for you. You will meet some of Saint
Mark’s leaders as well as other newcomers, have a chance to ask
questions about the life of the Cathedral, and learn of opportunities
for prayer, study, and service to encourage you on your faith
journey. The meeting is held in the Heritage
Room which is on the Nave level. The first
Newcomers gathering of 2026 will be held
January 11. We hope you will join us for this brief introduction
to ways to connect at Saint Mark’s.

Gathering Groups
Each month, the Women's and Men's ministry groups meet
at Saint Mark's. If one of your goals for the new year is to discover
new ways to connect and grow as disciples of Jesus, try one of these
groups.
Women's Ministry. Join other women
of St. Mark’s at the January 8, women’s ministry meeting at 6:00
in the library. If you have time, please bring a small plate of foods to share.
Men's Ministry. The St. Mark’s
Men’s Ministry will resume its monthly meeting on Saturday, January
24, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. We
meet in the Library, share some snacks
(please feel free to bring something!), talk about our topic of the
day, and close with a simple Eucharist. The meetings are open to
all who would like to participate; please feel free to join us.

Encouragement for Caregivers Group
Twice-monthly meeting
Caregiving can be a very lonely journey. Did you know
that Saint Mark's has a support group for persons
who are involved in caregiving for a loved one? Persons
in the group are extending care to parents,
spouses, siblings, and members of younger generations in their
families who need varying levels and types of assistance. They come
together to express their concerns, offer encouragement, and share
helpful resources with one another. Together we tap the gifts of our
faith – prayer, Scripture, and Christian community – to find
strength, hope, and peace.
The group meets via Zoom from 10:30 to 11:30 am twice
a month. January meetings will be held Mondays
the 5th and 19th. Whether you are new to being a caregiver or
have found yourself in that role for a period of
time, we welcome you to join us. Please contact John
Satterberg at JohnS@ourcathedral.org
for more information, including connection information.

SAAGES in January
Did you know we have an active group of "almost
retired and retired folks" at St. Mark's? This group likes to
connect, learn, laugh, and share their many gifts with others. It's
called SAAGES - Spiritually Active Adults, Growing, Exploring, Serving.
If this sounds like you, please join us on Wednesday
January 21st 10:30-12:00.
We'll share beverages and treats, learn about and
suggest upcoming events, and hear about opportunities to serve
others.
Please join us at 10:30, perhaps visit our
bookstore and stay for Wednesday Eucharist.

A Festival of Banners
– A Celebration of Liturgical Textile Art
Art Gallery
December 14, 2025 – February 15, 2026
“Banners and Flags are, in the truest sense, a
celebration art form. They are strong, simple graphic statements in cloth,
created to commemorate special events in our lives, to identify a
common cause symbolically, and to communicate to others something
that has important meaning for us. They are a visual catalyst to
involvement – the carrier of the message, a bold splash of color,
symbol, shape, metallic sparkle, and shine – that stirs people to
respond with joyous festivity or, sometimes, with thoughtful somber
ceremony.” (Banners & Flags – How to Sew a Celebration)
If you are interested in the creation and care of
textile art, the cathedral would welcome your expertise in creating
new and repairing current banners to continue this rich tradition of
community and creativity as well as preserving these historic works
of art. Please contact Jay Nuhring if you are interested in this
process, or if you have information about any of the displayed banners. jaynuhring@gmail.com

WELLS FOUNDATION GRANT SPOTLIGHT
The Lift Garage
The Wells Foundation is an independent non-profit
charitable foundation managed by Saint Markans, granting funds to
organizations serving the needs of our communities.
Here is one of the organizations supported:
The Lift Garage is an affordable,
non-profit auto repair service for all Minnesotans who meet the
150% Federal Poverty Guideline. When faced with an unexpected car repair, The Lift
customers simply cannot afford market-rate repairs. Customers
at The Lift pay $25/hour for labor and receive the parts at
just a 7.5% markup over cost.
Each day, the people of The Lift Garage feel thankful.
They know that, together, they are repairing not just cars, but
lives: restoring hope and opportunity by helping people get to school
and to jobs as an important step toward a more promising and secure
future.
