PRAYER VIGIL ONLINE TUESDAY JANUARY 13

Join together to watch online

7 p.m. CT Tuesday January 13

Join Episcopalians and faith partners in prayerful solidarity for an online vigil organized by The Episcopal Church’s public policy, partnership, and witness division in partnership with the Episcopal Church in Minnesota. We will mourn, lament, and remember those who have died due to immigration enforcement or while in detention, and seek to root ourselves in Jesus as we continue to witness to and work toward God’s love and justice for the world. Spanish interpretation will be available.

At Saint Mark's, we will offer opportunity to participate together, as one community. Please join us in the Community Room as early as 6:30 pm for the 7 pm online vigil.

Or, you may register Register here, to watch online.

Annual Meeting Lunch (immediately following meeting, Community Room)

A fundraiser for Sunday Night Supper

What could be better than sharing a meal together after a hard morning's work of an annual meeting? Sharing a meal together AND raising money for an important and powerful ministry like Sunday Night Supper. After the annual meeting on Sunday, January 25, please join us for a delicious lunch in the community room. Suggested donation is $10, but pay what you can — 100% of donations will go to support Saint Mark's Sunday Night Supper partnership.

Saint Mark's lay leader Rob Claxton has this to share about Sunday Night Supper:

"Sunday Night Supper is special because of the way it represents community bonds, friendship, and commitment in the Minneapolis community. Yes, it serves meals to those in need of a good, sit-down meal that can be enjoyed with gratitude and love in forms only God knows. But it also is an example of partnership between church families in the Twin Cities area. Saint Markans cook, clean, and connect with dinner guests every 2nd Sunday evening each month, at our neighbor church down the street, Plymouth Congregational.

History, tradition, and community action are hallmarks of the Saint Mark's Cathedral family, and Sunday Night Supper is an important part of our neighborhood ministry. As Jesus said, “The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Thank you for supporting this work, and I look forward to talking over lunch with those who would like to learn more."

Encouragement for Caregivers Group

Twice-monthly meeting

Caregiving can be a very lonely journey. Did you know that Saint Mark's has a support group for persons who are involved in caregiving for a loved one? Persons in the group are extending care to parents, spouses, siblings, and members of younger generations in their families who need varying levels and types of assistance. They come together to express their concerns, offer encouragement, and share helpful resources with one another. Together we tap the gifts of our faith – prayer, Scripture, and Christian community – to find strength, hope, and peace.

The group meets via Zoom from 10:30 to 11:30 two times each each month. The next meeting will be held January 19th. Whether you are new to being a caregiver or have found yourself in that role for a period of time, we welcome you to join us. Please contact John Satterberg at JohnS@ourcathedral.org for more information, including connection information.

SAAGES in January

Did you know we have an active group of "almost retired and retired folks" at Saint Mark's? This group likes to connect, learn, laugh, and share their many gifts with others. It's called SAAGES - Spiritually Active Adults, Growing, Exploring, Serving.

If this sounds like you, please join us on Wednesday January 21st, 10:30-Noon.

We'll share beverages and treats, learn about and suggest upcoming events, and hear about opportunities to serve others.

Please join us at 10:30, perhaps visit our bookstore and stay for Wednesday Eucharist.

Racial Justice and Healing Retreat

ECMN's next racial justice and healing retreat is Saturday, January 24 at Epiphany Church, Plymouth. We will be exploring history, talking to recent immigrants about their experiences, and learning about ways to advocate for immigrants in our state. The Rev. Daniel Romero is the guest preacher. Somatic work and liturgy will be woven throughout. We'd love to have a Saint Mark's contingent to this important event. All of the information and sign-up is here. Please consider inviting family and friends.

A Festival of BannersA Celebration of Liturgical Textile Art

Art Gallery

December 14, 2025 – February 15, 2026

“Banners and Flags are, in the truest sense, a celebration art form. They are strong, simple graphic statements in cloth, created to commemorate special events in our lives, to identify a common cause symbolically, and to communicate to others something that has important meaning for us. They are a visual catalyst to involvement – the carrier of the message, a bold splash of color, symbol, shape, metallic sparkle, and shine – that stirs people to respond with joyous festivity or, sometimes, with thoughtful somber ceremony.” (Banners & Flags – How to Sew a Celebration)

If you are interested in the creation and care of textile art, the cathedral would welcome your expertise in creating new and repairing current banners to continue this rich tradition of community and creativity as well as preserving these historic works of art. Please contact Jay Nuhring if you are interested in this process, or if you have information about any of the displayed banners. jaynuhring@gmail.com

WELLS FOUNDATION GRANT SPOTLIGHT

The Lift Garage

The Wells Foundation is an independent non-profit charitable foundation managed by Saint Markans, granting funds to organizations serving the needs of our communities.

Here is one of the organizations supported:

The Lift Garage is an affordable, non-profit auto repair service for all Minnesotans who meet the 150% Federal Poverty Guideline. When faced with an unexpected car repair, The Lift customers simply cannot afford market-rate repairs. Customers at The Lift pay $25/hour for labor and receive the parts at just a 7.5% markup over cost.

Each day, the people of The Lift Garage feel thankful. They know that, together, they are repairing not just cars, but lives: restoring hope and opportunity by helping people get to school and to jobs as an important step toward a more promising and secure future.
