Garden Love – Weeding
June 11 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Awake, O north wind, Come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden, That its perfume may spread. Let my beloved come to his garden and enjoy its luscious fruits! – Song of Songs 4:16 Tanakh (NJPS)
Wind, rain and warmth are continuing to affect the plants in the garden. The storms of the past week knocked some of the plants, already heavy with blossoms, to the ground. Supporting frames will allow those plants to grow tall again. The growing conditions seem to be particularly encouraging “garden thugs”. Garden thugs are wanted plants that take over and crowd out other wanted plants. Thinning of some of the plants is necessary to allow others to survive. With much of the garden in bloom, pollinators have found the blossoms. I saw two kinds of bumblebees and many honeybees during my short visit today.
