From the Provost: 50th Anniversary of Women Priests

Dear Siblings in Christ,

Today we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ordination of women to the priesthood, and my heart overflows with joy and gratitude. This milestone marks half a century of a transformative journey in our Church, highlighting our deep commitment to recognizing and affirming the diverse gifts of all believers.

As an Episcopalian, I am immensely proud of our tradition of seeing Christ in every person and honoring the priesthood of all believers. This anniversary is a powerful reminder of the inclusive nature of our faith and the profound impact of God’s call on our lives.

I am especially thankful for the brave women of Philadelphia 11 who stood steadfast and declared, "I am called." Their courage and faithfulness have paved the way for this historic moment and continue to inspire us all.

Paul’s letter to the Galatians 3:28 (NRSV) says: “There is no longer Jew or Gentile, neither slave nor free, neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” This scripture reflects the very essence of our celebration—the unity and equality we cherish in Christ.

Thank you for joining in this significant celebration, and for your unwavering support and prayers for Gods church as we commemorate this important chapter in our shared history.
