“Behold,
I am about to create new heavens and a new earth.”
Dear
Cathedral Community,
The
prophet Isaiah offers us a vision that feels both ancient and
achingly current. He speaks to a people who
have known loss and weariness ; those who
have worked hard to rebuild what once was. Into that weariness, God
speaks with astonishing promise: “I am about to create new heavens
and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to
mind.”
This is
not a far-off dream, but a glimpse of God’s renewing work happening
even now. It’s a world where joy and justice live side by side, where
labor bears good fruit, and where peace stretches from generation to
generation. Isaiah invites us to imagine that world
, and to live as if it’s already breaking in among us.
Here at
the Cathedral, we are called to embody that promise. Every moment of
welcome, every meal shared, every act of care for our city is part of
God’s renewal. When we nurture our children in faith, walk alongside
those in grief, or lift our voices for justice, we help make Isaiah’s
vision visible in our time.
So I wonder: where do you see God’s renewal breaking through , in your life, in our community, in our
city? And how might we, together, make that renewal more real through
our words, our worship, and our service?
Isaiah
reminds us that we belong to a story larger than our own ,one where sorrow gives way to joy, and hope
is stronger than despair. May we continue to live as citizens of this
new heaven and new earth, even now, even here.
Creator
God,
You
make all things new.
Breathe
your Spirit upon us and upon this Cathedral community,
that
we may see your renewing work in the world around us.
Where
there is weariness, bring rest;
where
there is division, sow peace;
where
there is despair, plant hope.
Make
us builders of your new heaven and new earth —
people
of joy, compassion, and courage.
In
Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
With
hope and gratitude,
Tim+
