Saint Mark's Episcopal Cathedral Land Acknowledgment

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. (James 4:10).

God calls each of us to demonstrate humility and to show compassion for all creation, in our thoughts and in our actions. Walking that path, we acknowledge the injustices that we and our ancestors have inflicted upon our Indigenous siblings.

We acknowledge especially the Dakota, Anishinaabeg, and others whose land and homes were taken, land we now occupy in this cathedral. We commit to learning from our indigenous relatives and to turning what we learn into action as we strive for reconciliation and healing. May we always remember that the Earth does not belong to us; we belong to the Earth. We are all relatives. Help us to learn from our past mistakes and to be instruments of justice and peace for all.
