Lenten Small Group Discussions:
For Such a Time as This: an
Emergency Devotional
Discussion
sessions begin on/after February 8
Sign-up now
In the days following Alex Petti’s murder I came
across two things online that persuaded me with sudden force and
clarity that gathering in small groups at St. Mark’s to talk about
what is happening now in Minneapolis alongside Hanna Reichel’s
“Emergency Devotional,” For Such a Time as This may prove
to be the most timely, essential, defining and transformative Lenten
discipline I have ever adopted.
Reporting from Minneapolis earlier this past week,
MSNow’s Chris Hayes noted that history is being made here because
ordinary people have chosen to do something extraordinary.” That he
asserted, is “the alchemy of democracy.” The same might equally well be
said of Christianity, though we describe it as the call to
discipleship and credit the Holy Spirit rather than “alchemy.”
The blog written by Roger Larson is continued here.
Now is
the time to join a small discussion group.

Big Impact, Small People
Saint Mark's Nursery
The nursery needs more volunteers to keep running. When you
volunteer in the nursery, you’re doing more than childcare for the 6 month to 6 year old
members—you’re strengthening our whole church. You get to share joy
with curious, joyful children, form meaningful relationships with
families, and help make church accessible for parents, aunties,
uncles, and grandparents.
For 10 months of the year, with 41 weeks and 2
volunteers per Sunday, our current team of 6 volunteers are trying to
fill the 82 slots available for the year. They need your help.
Training provided, you pick your schedule. Please contact Kimberley
Johnson at kimberleydarnalljohnson@hotmail.com

Pastoral Care in Uncertain Times
At this incredibly challenging time, we are all struggling
with questions and distress. We are challenged spiritually,
emotionally, socially, and communally. We seek safe places where we
can express our concerns and be heard. Each of us longs to find a way
to support ourselves and others engaged in varied forms of activism.
If you are in need of any support, the
Pastoral Care Team at Saint Mark's is here for you.
This might also be a perfect time for you to consider
participating in the pastoral care ministry by joining the Pastoral
Care Team. We provide training and mentoring for all our ministries.
There are no prerequisites, just a curious and willing heart. Current
needs include Eucharistic Visiting; the Prayer Station; the Card
Ministry; reaching out to selected parishioners with phone calls; and
joining in pastoral care support activities.

Mark's Episcopal Cathedral

WELLS FOUNDATION GRANT SPOTLIGHT
Tubman
The Wells Foundation is an independent non-profit
charitable foundation managed by Saint Markans, granting funds to
organizations serving the needs of our communities.
Here is one of the organizations supported:
Tubman seeks to meet the needs
of homeless youth, while addressing the racism and historical trauma that
harm and devalue Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. It offers
the sustained, one-on-one support that homeless youth need to heal,
connect with community resources, form supportive relationships, and
pursue their goals—all necessary to secure a stable future without
violence, exploitation, or homelessness.
With assistance from the Wells Foundation, Tubman
provides 12 units of Safe Journeys site-based transitional housing
and 10 units of rapid rehousing with rental assistance. Tubman staff
also increase access to housing by overcoming landlord reluctance to
rent; they help clients connect with education and increase income.
In 2025, 92% of those who exited from the program did so to safe,
stable, longer-term housing.
