Encouragement for Caregivers Group

Twice-monthly meeting

Caregiving can be a very lonely journey. Did you know that Saint Mark's has a support group for persons who are involved in caregiving for a loved one? Persons in the group are extending care to parents, spouses, siblings, and members of younger generations in their families who need varying levels and types of assistance. They come together to express their concerns, offer encouragement, and share helpful resources with one another. Together we tap the gifts of our faith – prayer, Scripture, and Christian community – to find strength, hope, and peace.

The group meets via Zoom from 10:30 to 11:30 two times each each month. The next meeting will be held January 19th. Whether you are new to being a caregiver or have found yourself in that role for a period of time, we welcome you to join us. Please contact John Satterberg at johns@ourcathedral.org for more information, including connection information.

SAAGES in January

Did you know we have an active group of "almost retired and retired folks" at Saint Mark's? This group likes to connect, learn, laugh, and share their many gifts with others. It's called SAAGES - Spiritually Active Adults, Growing, Exploring, Serving.

If this sounds like you, please join us on Wednesday January 21st, 10:30-Noon.

We'll share beverages and treats, learn about and suggest upcoming events, and hear about opportunities to serve others.

Please join us at 10:30, perhaps visit our bookstore and stay for Wednesday Eucharist.

Get Involved

Friday, January 23 and beyond

Saint Mark's members are joining other people of faith, unions, organizations, and businesses to say ICE OUT of Minnesota. On Friday, January 23, join people across the state and nation for a Day of Prayer and Fasting For Truth and Freedom. There are actions you can do every day this week, as well as lots of ways to engage in the Day of Prayer and Fasting on January 23.

You can find out more here, and sign up to participate in whatever way works for you.

For on-going involvement in whatever way you can, please visit our newly re-designed webpage faith in action. This page will allow you to stay in-the-know: Act

Racial Justice and Healing Retreat

 Saturday, January 24

Due the current surge in ICE activity in Minnesota, the Racial Justice and Healing Commission has chosen to move their retreat scheduled for January 24 online, with a reschedule date for the full in-person retreat experience later in the Spring. The online workshop will be from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

The online gathering will still focus on immigration - how we as people of faith ground ourselves in prayer and, from that solid foundation, move into action to support our communities, whether we ourselves are immigrants, or whether we are seeking to care for and support our family members, friends, neighbors, or fellow parishioners. The morning will contain group presentations, individual practices, small group sharing, prayer, and somatic practices. Resources will be supplied to prepare you for the morning and support your personal ministry in this area.

If you are able to attend, you can register here.

Come to lunch with Fresh Start

and the recently incarcerated and 180 Degrees V.P.

Listening is our job…

Lenten Small Group Discussions:

For Such a Time as This: an Emergency Devotional

Coming in February. Sign-up begins late January.

This book is so good, these days are so fraught, and St. Markan's are so ready to challenge and support each other that we feel compelled to bring Hanna Reichel's "emergency devotional," For Such a Time As This back for a second look.

The book was first used last month by a handful of St. Markans during Advent. It was obvious from the three lively discussions sparked in those pre-ICE Age gatherings that a second look is needed, affording more time for shared reflection in smaller, more intimate settings.

Now is the time, and Lent is the appropriate season, as together we follow Christ and the disciples to Jerusalem, the cross, the empty tomb and the Upper Room.

Each discussion group of 6-8 people will meet weekly with a trained facilitator, either in-person or online. Copies of the book are available in the Saint Mark's Book Shop.

More details and sign-up opportunities will soon be available .

Joining the Episcopal Church

Next session begins February 1

The next offering of the Joining the Episcopal Church series will begin on Sunday, February 1, 2026 and will meet for 8 weeks from 9:15 to 10:15 am Sundays in the Library. It will be open for all interested adults (16+ years old) but may be particularly appropriate for people who would like to be baptized during the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 4, 2026. Questions about this series may be directed to Rev. Kent Rahm, kentrahm@comcast.net

Confirmation, Reception, and Re-affirmation will take place on Saturday April 18 at 2:00 pm, as part of the ECMN Regional Confirmation service. If you have questions about joining the church or becoming a member of Saint Mark's, please contact Mary Lusk, maryl@ourcathedral.org

A Festival of BannersA Celebration of Liturgical Textile Art

Art Gallery

December 14, 2025 – February 15, 2026

“Banners and Flags are, in the truest sense, a celebration art form. They are strong, simple graphic statements in cloth, created to commemorate special events in our lives, to identify a common cause symbolically, and to communicate to others something that has important meaning for us. They are a visual catalyst to involvement – the carrier of the message, a bold splash of color, symbol, shape, metallic sparkle, and shine – that stirs people to respond with joyous festivity or, sometimes, with thoughtful somber ceremony.” (Banners & Flags – How to Sew a Celebration)

If you are interested in the creation and care of textile art, the cathedral would welcome your expertise in creating new and repairing current banners to continue this rich tradition of community and creativity as well as preserving these historic works of art. Please contact Jay Nuhring if you are interested in this process, or if you have information about any of the displayed banners. jaynuhring@gmail.com

WELLS FOUNDATION GRANT SPOTLIGHT

Change, Inc.

The Wells Foundation is an independent non-profit charitable foundation managed by Saint Markans, granting funds to organizations serving the needs of our communities.

Here is one of the organizations supported:

Change Inc. is a non-profit in a low-income St. Paul neighborhood. One of its programs is the GAP School, an alternative high school serving students who have aged out of public school classes or been transferred by administrative order. GAP produces 50-80 graduates each year, and about 80% are employed within 3-6 months.

Another distinctive feature of the school is the YouthBuild program, providing hands-on training and an industry-recognized certificate in one of two vocational "pathways:" construction and healthcare. The construction cohort recently finished building a new house in the neighborhood -- and then sold it! Students in the personal care assistant or certified nursing assistant cohort complete training at various sites, including the Episcopal Homes.

For more information on Change, Inc., visit https://www.thechangeinc.org/. To learn more about the Wells Foundation, visit www.wellsfound.org.
